The Pictures:
 
1.  Dwight D. Eisenhower, president during most of the 1950s.  As a general during World War Two, he had been a key leader in the Allied fight against Hitler. 

2.  A suburban house typical of the millions built in the decade or so after World War Two.  Many were built in large new suburbs that spread in the outskirts of big cities.

3.  Rosa Parks, the black woman who challenged the system of segregation on city buses in Montgomery, Alabama.  Her refusal to move to the back of the bus helped launch the modern Civil Rights movement.

4.  A television camera and camera operator.  The 1950s saw the spread of television into most American homes.  Color TV did not become common until the 1960s.
