The Pictures:
 
1.  Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader of Germany during World War Two.  Hitler committed suicide in an underground bunker in Berlin as the city fell to the Russian army in 1945. 

2.  American warplanes of World War Two.  Air power was vital to both sides in the war.  The Allies had a great advantage, however, once American factories began producing planes in large numbers.

3.  Harry Truman, the president who made the decision to use the atomic bomb to force the Japanese to surrender.  He became president when FDR died in the spring of 1945. 

4.  A machinist adjusts a metal working lathe in a factory.  After the war, soldiers came back to take civilian jobs or went to school on the G.I. Bill.
