The Pictures:
 
1.  Theodore Roosevelt, one of the most energetic presidents of his era.  He began his political career in New York, and was committed to many of the reforms favored by the Progressive movement.

2.  A factory along a railroad line.  A big question for the early 1900s was the proper role of the government in regulating industry.

3.  The dollar sign.  Here it is used as a symbol of the capitalist spirit that was bringing incredible growth to America in the early 1900s.   Socialists, however, claimed the chase after profits created social injustice and poverty.

4.  A Model T style automobile.  Henry Ford created moving assembly lines and other innovations that made his famous car affordable for the masses.
