The Pictures:
 
1.  Men harvesting wheat with a scythe.  This scythe has the blade at the bottom, and several curved wood sticks to hold the cut stalks together after each swing.

2.  An example of an early steam locomotive.  The firebox is on the left.  The boiler is the middle section, and the smokestack is on the right.

3.  An early factory powered by a water wheel.  The water wheel sits just inside the opening on the left end of the main building. A stream of water flows out from the opening.

4.  Andrew Jackson, elected president in 1828.  His years in office are often called "The Age of Jackson," and reflected the growing power of ordinary citizens in American political life.
